About us

As the federal association of business angels and their ecosystem, BAND has done pioneering work in the young history of the ecosystem in Germany and in the European context. The association is the voice of angel investors, represents their legitimate interests to politicians and the public, promotes and strengthens a broadly diversified, professionally positioned business angel ecosystem and raises public awareness of angel investing as a driver of the economy, growth and innovation.

Mission statement

BAND stands for the model of the “two-winged” business angel, who invests both capital and expertise in young, innovative start-ups. Business angels are often at the beginning of the financing chain, where the bottleneck is greatest. In addition, business angels are also increasingly playing a not insignificant role in follow-up financing rounds. For these reasons, they are of great economic importance.

Business Angel Ecosystem

The business angel ecosystem is an informal market. Only a small proportion of the approximately 12,000 angel investors are organized in networks and business angel clubs. A constant process of change is taking place in the ecosystem, in particular through new digital tools, which BAND is driving forward. BAND promotes cooperation with financing partners such as crowdinvesting, accelerators, company builders, family offices and venture capital funds.

Since February 2015, Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland e.V. (BAND) has been a cooperation partner of EXIST - Start-ups from Science. The aim of the funding program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is to improve the start-up climate at universities and non-university research institutions. In addition, the number and success of technology-oriented and knowledge-based start-ups is to be increased. To this end, the BMWi supports university graduates, scientists and students in preparing their technology-oriented and knowledge-based start-ups. In addition, EXIST promotes a lively and sustainable start-up culture at public and private universities.

Forum Startup Chemie

We have launched the open platform “Forum Startup Chemie” to promote the startup scene in chemistry and related areas such as industrial biotechnology, bioeconomy and measurement and process technology. This stands for transparency and continuous support for the start-up process, from the idea to market success. Our main objective is to significantly increase the number and probability of success of young innovative chemical companies by providing uncomplicated access to established companies, infrastructures, information and investors. By methodically coordinating existing measures and activities and establishing new ones where necessary, start-ups can be optimally supported in all phases of development.

Stiftung Wirkungsanteil

The Impact Share Foundation supports early-stage and growth-oriented start-ups in generating more impact by giving a small portion of their equity to a social cause (of their choice). Quick, easy and effective. Through #ImpactVorsorge, they support startups in integrating social responsibility into their companies and connect like-minded founders with each other and with exciting partners. The impact portion is already supported by well-known investors such as Tim Schumacher, Luis Hanemann and Verena Pausder.
